Since San Diego is on the west coast, beach venues are a great place to photograph during sunset hours. I especially like photographing on slightly cloudy days, as the clouds serve as a natural light diffuser, and they throw off some amazing colors!

• Carlsbad State Beach. This is a beautiful stretch of California coastline located in northern San Diego. Wide open and spacious, relatively flat, unobstructed, sandy beaches. Carlsbad is a growing vacation destination spot, as it pairs the beauty of San Diego beaches with smaller crowds (since it’s in the northern part of the county). • Sunset Cliffs. Located in Ocean Beach, San Diego, Sunset Cliffs Natural Park is an extremely popular location to watch the amazing sunsets that Southern California has to offer. It’s beautiful bluffs provide a gorgeous backdrop to stunning portraits and small weddings, and it’s within walking distance to The Thursday Club! • Tamarack Beach. Located in Carlsbad (north coastal San Diego), Tamarack Beach is also known as Carlsbad State Beach. It’s a long stretch of beach that is relatively flat and offers stunning California sunset views. • Tera Mar Beach.
• Torrey Pines State Beach.
• Windansea Beach. This is by far one of my favorite beach venues to photograph portraits, graduation shoots, family portraits, engagements, anniversaries, fitness and lifestyle shoots, and much, much more!! Located in La Jolla, Windansea offers beaches, surf, bluffs and stairwells, allowing you to get a variety of different composition styles in one shoot. • Bahia Belle. The Bahia Belle is a turn-of-the-centruty, Mississippi-style sternwheeler boat that cruises Mission Bay. It’s available for private party rentals, and is an amazing experience for wedding guests to cruise around and enjoy the evening nights on Mission Bay in San Diego. • Maritime Museum. Located overlooking the San Diego Bay just steps from the USS Midway, the San Diego Maritime Museum has one of the worlds finest collections of historic ships, including the Star of India. • San Diego Temple. The LDS San Diego Temple is a Mormon temple owned and operated by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. It is an amazingly beautiful temple, and a gorgeous setting for private Mormon marriages. Although the binding ceremonies are held in private, guests are allowed to wait outside, and the temple grounds make for some incredibly beautiful wedding photos! • Shadowridge Country Club. Located in Vista (North San Diego), Shadowridge Country Club offers a wonderful venue for weddings and private parties. It’s banquet hall offers stunning views of their lush golf course, and they have a beautifuL outdoor gazebo and private area for ceremonies (away from their clubhouse, guests are bussed to the ceremony via club services). The golf course also offers many amenities, such as private changing rooms for the bride and groom, full bar, catering services and more. Owned and operated by the Sycuan Band of the Kumeyaay Nation, the Sycuan Resort in El Cajon is a beautiful and well maintained golf course and resort that is a wonderful venue for both large and small corporate events, private parties and weddings! The Sycuan Resort has a cute little changing room for the bride, an outdoor area with a large gazebo for weddings and ceremonies, and a large banquet hall perfect for any reception! • The Grand Del Mar. As one of the only five star luxury resorts in San Diego, The Grand Del Mar definitely meets its expectations. The architecture and ambience of The Grand is exquisite, making it no big wonder why you may bump into world renowned athletes and movie stars during your stay or event. The staff goes above and beyond to make sure it’s guests privacy is respected, and their stay or events at The Grand Del Mar are nothing short of amazing. If you’re planning on just doing a shoot here (i.e. family portraits, engagements, etc.), beware, they take guest privacy VERY seriously, so you’ll be extremely limited as to what type of equipment you can bring on your shoot!
• The Santaluz Club. This private country club located in the gated community of Santaluz is an absolutely stunning and beautiful venue for private parties, weddings and corporate events. The Santaluz Club offers beautiful views of the private golf course, a grand bar and several banquet rooms to host various sizes of events. The catering and food services is amazing as well! • Hotel del Coronado. Located on Coronado Island in San Diego, the Hotel del Coronado is a historic beachfront hotel, and one of the oldest wooden hotel structures still around. It offers a beautifully maintained, traditional grand hotel, and amazing views of the Pacific Ocean. • L’Auberge, Del Mar. One of the most desired, high end destination venues in San Diego, L’Auberge in Del Mar doesn’t disappoint. • Marina Village. Located in Mission Bay, Marina Village is a wildly populare and affordable venue for nearly every type of event, big or small. As a professional event photographer in San Diego, Fotility Photography & Videography has shot numerous weddings, reunions, corporate events and birthday parties in both indoor and outdoor locations at Marina Village. Ballrooms can accommodate both small (less than thirty people) to large (over 500 people) groups, and provide beautiful views of the marina and San Diego sunsets! Like most professional event venues, Marina Village does require all vendors to provide proof of their General Liablity Insurance, which we keep on file with them! • Old Poway Park. This park offers ceremony services under a large, outdoor gazebo, and reception services both outdoors and indoors! For a creative San Diego wedding photographer like myself, Old Poway Park is brimming with A TON of beautiful backdrops that are perfect for many different wedding photography composition styles! Located in Poway, this rustic park offers lush natural park settings, historical buildings (i.e. barns, wedding/meeting halls and a restaurant!), and even a couple of decommissioned train cars! Not to mention it is home to the Poway Midland Railroad, which has an actual working train, tracks and a small bridge! I prefer doing sunset sessions here, as it’s less crowded and the train have stopped running, giving me access to shoot on the tracks and bridges. • Sacred Mountain Retreat. This is one of my absolutely favorite wedding venues in San Diego! Located in Julian, California, Sacred Mountain Retreat is a privatley owned ranch nestled in between mutiple rolling hills with amazing views! There are multiple, rustic buildings spread throughout the retreat, including a gorgeous barn, main house, and various guest houses, it’s perfect for large or small weddings in San Diego. The primary ceremony location is outdoors in a clearing that faces west and offers some of the most beautiful sunset views in town! • The Grand Tradition Estate & Gardens. This wedding and private party venue is a stand alone event venue located in the CDP of Fallbrook in northern San Diego County. It’s grounds are absolutely stunning, and it’s southern mansion style and vibe makes for some amazing weddings and events! They have a traditional, colonial mansion, a large lake, and beautifully manicured grounds and gardens. The service staff at The Grand Tradition is amazing, and the food is delicious! • The Thursday Club. This wedding and private party venue is a stand alone event venue located in the neighborhood of Point Loma, within walking distance to Sunset Cliffs. It’s a gorgeous building on it’s own block in the middle of a public neighborhood, with stunning views of the San Diego coastline. The outdoor garden is perfect for small to medium size weddings, positioned so that the sun sets directly in the background during outdoor events. The Thursday Club provides a large reception hall, built in kitchen, private prep room for the bride, and a comfy living room for guests to mingle. • The Ultimate Skybox. As a full time event and wedding photographer based in San Diego, I’ve been fortunate enough to have photographed multiple events at The Ulitmate Skybox! Located in downtown San Diego, this exclusive, private venue offers stunning views of the downtown skyline, including a direct look into Petco Park! The venue has many amenities, including private parking for guests, a large, open ballroom, a separate built in bar area, outdoor double sided fireplace, wrap around patio, and amazing stunning views! • The Womens Club, Mission Beach. Located in beautiful Mission Beach, San Diego, The Women’s Club is a quaint, small venue nestled along the innner marina side of Mission Bay. This beautiful venue is located right along a popular walking boardwalk, so there will be a lot of foot traffic to stop and marvel at your beautiful outdoor ceremony. They have a small, outdoor patio attached to their main building, or you can choose to have your event right on the adjacent beach! The inside of The Women’s Club is open and quaint, and includes a stage for small, live bands or music. Located in San Diego’s north county coastal community of Encinitas, the San Elijo Lagoon is an ecological reserve and nature center that includes over seven (7) miles of walking trails around is beautiful grounds. I like shooting couples and fitness shoots here, as it provides some amazing nature backdrops, including sweeping views of the lagoon and private, natural trails. • Extraordinary Desserts, Little Italy. With two locations in San Diego, the Little Italy location of Extraordinary Desserts (as featured on Food Network) offers an amazing display of their wildly creative desserts, and a very retro, large indoor dining area with a full bar and outdoor patio. I always check with the staff first before I shoot there, and I usually shoot natural light so as not to distrub the other diners. But I find the layout of this location extremely pleasing for urban lifestyle shoots, and the large glass door and custom metal screen exterior is beautiful! • Royal India, Miramar. Royal India in Miramar is part of the Roya India restaurant group, and provides amazing Indian cuisine paired with great service!
