06/52 – San Elijo Lagoon, Encinitas, California. If you’re looking to capture some beautiful nature shots, the San Elijo Lagoon Ecological Reserve and Nature Center is a must visit! Located off Manchester Avenue, it’s just east of the coast line and offers a short little walking hike around some beautiful, protected lagoon scenery. I’ve done fitness lifestyle and engagement shoots here, and it never disappoints giving me a wide variety of both nature, sunset and lagoons for some gorgeous back drops.
The gates open at 9a and close promptly at 5p, however, there is street parking and access to the trails if you want to start earlier or stay later. The lagoons do tend to gather standing water and attrack a lot of flying insects, so be prepared for that! However, they’ve never caused a problem for me, and shooting here is always a nice change of pace for the beautiful beach sunsets!

I used to live in San Diego and visited this lagoon a few times. One of the many pretty areas of the city.
It’s a great spot (especially after all the rains), Dan, and you’re right, there are many here in San Diego! Unfortunately, they recently did some maintenance, and they trimmed a lot of the natural growth back off the trails, which is something I really miss! Where are you now?
