Santa Ysabel Open Preserve on a Chilly January 2023 Morning

It’s been a hot minute since I’ve been able to get out on my own and shoot what I like to shoot, just for me. Growing my business has kept me busy, to say the least, and I’m not gonna lie… I nearly forgot my ‘whys’ for starting Fotility. Now don’t get me wrong… my passion for photography has only grown stronger, and my drive and entrepreneurial spirit hasn’t faded in the slightest. But Fotility somehow reached a point where I was spending more time working and less time… well… experiencing (I’m struggling to find the right word, but for now ‘experiencing’ will have to do).

Today was a big step in finding my footing and steadying myself. One of my goals when I started Fotility was to merge two of my passions together (motorcycling and photography). So I took some time this morning for a solo ride up to Santa Ysabel Open Preserve to take some landscape photos. I’ve passed by this place a thousand times on my rides up to Julian and have always admired its beauty.  I added a Kuryakyn 5285 Momentum Vagabond bag to the back of my Yamaha Roadstar specifically to hold my camera gear. My Apache 3800 camera travel case fits perfectly in this bag, and it’s watertight, padded protection kept my Nikon D780, AF-S NIKKOR 16-35mm and Pixel Wirless Shutter safe and sound during the ride. There was plenty of room left in the Vagabond to also hold my K&F BA225 Carbon Fiber Travel Tripod and Rangers 8 piece ND Filter Kit. And to help keep me warm on the mountain (it was a brisk low 40’s up there), my 24oz Thermos and 18oz Stanley kept my coffee piping hot and my cream of wheat nice and warm!

The views at the Santa Ysabel Open Preserve were AMAZING, and I was able to take quite a few photos. I took 5 bracket shots at 2 stops, with my D780 mounted on lightweight, K&F carbon fiber tripod and using Pixel wireless shutter. I took a variety of shots and angles, and when I was done, I sat down on a rock and just soaked in the quiteness and views while I enjoyed some coffee and breakfast. It was a magnificent morning, and I had an awesome ride back down the hill!
