The Inez Grant Parker Memorial Rose Garden is a beautiful location for all types of portrait photography, such as couples, engagements, family, graduations, lifestyle, maternity and surprise proposals. Located on the East Side of Park Blvd across the pedestrian bridge adjacent to the San Diego Natural History Museum, the Rose Garden provides limited street parking but there is ample parking at Balboa Park (directly across the street). The Rose Garden is open and available to the public free of charge 24 hours a day, but permits are required for certain activities (i.e. weddings).

The Rose Garden contains 2,400+ rose bushes in 180+ varieties. Peak bloom is usually during April and May, and the vibrant colors can enahnce the overal aesthetic appeal and spark creative composition ideas for any photographer!

Photography Tips for Inez Grant Parker Memorial Rose Garden

  • Check for blooms before you head out!
  • The park offers a wide variety of composition opportunities, but you’ll have to work hard to avoid background noise and distractions.
  • There are several ‘rings’ of planters, offering good opportunities for creative framing.
  • Avoid shooting back towards Balboa Park.

ALL of the rose bushes have recently been pruned, so there are currently NO ROSE BLOSSOMS! The main ‘gazebo’ area is currently under maintenance, so the entire roof has been removed.
