Windansea Beach, La Jolla

Since my surgery in 2014, the new year always brings a time of retrospect and opportunity to challenge and improve myself in some ever-so-slight, difficult, yet achievable way. I’ve quit smoking, retooled my priorities and completely eliminated sodas (the latter of which has been the hardest) in a quest to take small little baby steps towards a better quality of life. Things have been going good, and I’ve been rewarded with more inner happiness and peace than I’ve known for decades! But in 2016, as my photography business really started to take off, I found myself spending more and more time taking photos for others, and less and less time taking photos for myself. So this year, my challenge is this:

To take and post at least one photo a week just for myself, no matter where that may be.

Seems so simple, doesn’t it? But after spending the first week of 2017 with a heavy cold, working, and spending time with my nieces and nephews before they head back to college… I realized something very quickly. Time moves fast, and I mean REALLY fast!

But then again, wasn’t that the point of the challenge? To slow down, to balance my priorities, and to give just as much to myself and things that matter to me as I do to just moving through life? Why yes… yes it was! So this week, I found the time, and I was pleasantly surprised that it really wasn’t that hard at all 🙂

01/52 – Windansea Beach, La Jolla, California. This is one of my favorite spots to shoot couples and families in San Diego. This hidden gem of a beach is Located in La Jolla, California, just south of La Jolla Shores. It’s a fairly small beach, and home to the famous grass hut (which was recently renovated by the locals). But what it lacks in size, it more than makes up for in beauty. Unlike many of the open, sandy beaches of San Diego, Windansea beach offers a beautiful, rocky landscape that is the perfect backdrop for some amazing portrait photos. Living on the west coast, the sun sets over the water, so on a slightly cloudy day (my personal favorite), Mother Nature blesses Windansea with some gloriously colorful sunsets. I always like to check the weather and the tide tables before I head out, just to be prepared for what the beach has to offer. On high tides, I love to capture my clients on the bluffs, overlooking the pounding surf or gazing into each others eyes as the sun sets behind them. On low tides, I love to have them walking along the sand, posing in between the rocks, are tucked into one of the many caves and crevices in the bluffs. Windansea never disappoints!

These are just a few of the photographs I captured of Windansea Beach this week, and I have many more. It was nice to be out there, capturing just the natural beauty of this amazing city I live in. I got to play around with all of my camera settings, doing everything from surfer action shots to long shutter exposures, and I can’t wait to share them all with you!
