04/52 – Presiio Park, San Diego, California. A National Historical Landmark, Presidio Park (or San Diego Presidio) is located right next door to Old Town San Diego State Historic Park, and is home to the Junipero Serra Museum. It offers a wide range of history and beauty, very similar in nature to San Diego’s Balboa Park, but without all the fanfare (making it one of my favorite places to take family portraits!). In comparison to Balboa Park, Presidio Park is relatively small in size, however, it provides more than enough opportunities to capture some amazing structural, arhictectural and natural landscape composition opportunities. Whether your shooting the historic hallway arches of the Juniper Serra Museum, the various natural park settings or the wonderfully aged wooden fences enclosing the north side of the park, you’re sure to capture some amazing images!
I particullarly like shooting at Presidio Park for clients who want the look and feel of Balboa Park, without all of the crowds. As part of my style, I like my subjects to be the primary (and often sole) focal point of my photos. Although beautiful, when shooting at Balboa Park, I’m always challenged finding the perfect spot, waiting for the right moment, and then performing a lot of cleanup in post production to remove all the unwanted items from the back ground of my images (not to mention the often difficult parking situations). At Presidio Park, I get much of the same composition styles, but with far, far fewer people in frame. And the parking… oh, the parking! There’s hardly ever anyone there!
