Well, I thought I’d give the sunset another shot, but this time at the beach to, once again, see if I could capture those eye popping sunset colors. No cigar 🙂
Today was a bit nerve racking, because I chose to go to a popular location on a popular day. Not only was it Sunday evening, but it was Father’s Day. So… there were tons of professional photographers at the pier, taking everything from wedding and engagement photos to family portraits. Very intimidating indeed, to be on the sand with my little Nikon D3300, and these guys with all their pro gear rigs. Needless to say, I positioned myself well away from the crowd on the north side of the pier, and did my best to try and stay focused on what I was trying to learn today.
The results were pretty much the same from the other day. The evening sky was crystal clear, providing no cloud cover to diffuse any of the sunlight. I worked mostly on composition, and adjusting aperture, shutter speed and ISO to get the right exposure. As the sun was just about to set, a father was leading his son out into the waves to teach him how to surf. I thought ‘what a beautiful father/son moment, especially considering it was Father’s Day’. Instinctively, I pointed my camera at them as they waded into the surf and captured a few good shots. Enjoy!
